Uber unveiled a flying electric taxi at its Elevate conference in Washington DC, USA on Tuesday, 11 June 2019
The Uber Air was built in partnership with Safran Cabin, can seat up to four passengers and combines the vertical take-off capabilities of a helicopter with the efficiency of fixed-wing lift generation.
Uber plans to begin testing of the flying taxi service in Dallas, Los Angeles and Melbourne, Australia starting 2020 with a public deployment planned for 2023.
The service will operate using the Uber app, allowing passengers to travel across a network of landing pads called “Skyports”.
Uber is currently working with a number of companies to design its flying vehicles including NASA who are creating an air traffic control system to manage its flying taxi fleet.
