Indian man cuts off index finger after voting for ruling Bharatiya Janata Party by mistake: Pawan Kumar

An Indian man Pawan Kumar chopped off his index finger after voting for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by mistake in national elections on Thursday, April 18.

Kumar wanted to vote for the Bahujan Samaj Party  (BSP) which is represented by the elephant on voting machines but instead pressed on the lotus, the symbol for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya the Janata Party (BJP).

A distraught, 25-year-old Kumar went home and chopped off his finger with a meat cleaver. “I wanted to vote for the elephant but it went to flower,” he says in a video

Kumar was casting his vote in the second round of the election in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh in India’s election which runs from April 11 to May 19.
