Ondangwa by-election set for June 15 by Namibia’s electoral commission

Ondangwa’s urban by-election has been set for Saturday, June 15 after the constituency’s councillor Elia Irimari was appointed as the new Oshana regional governor last month.

Irimari succeeds former governor Clemens Kashuupulwa who was appointed as Namibia’s ambassador to Russia in November last year.

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) announced that supplementary voter registration for the Ondangwa by-election will start on Wednesday, May 1.

Candidate nominations will run from April 19 to May 4 for independent candidates and April 19 to May 6 for political party candidates.

The following individuals have signified their intention to contest in the Ondangwa by-election

  • Leonard Negonga (SWAPO)
  • Angela Immanuel (Independent)
  • Johannes Martin (Popular Democratic Movement)
