Funeral of Ethiopia’s alleged coup plotter Brigadier General Asaminew Tsige funeral in Lalibela in the Amhara region on Thursday, 27 June 2019

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed accused Asaminew Tsige of masterminding the June 22 coup that led to the death of Amhara regional president Ambachew Mekonnen and five others.

Tsige was arrested in May 2009 for plotting a coup, he was sentenced to life in prison but received a pardon in February 2018 after serving 9 years.

The general was killed on Monday, June 24 after spending two days on the run. His son, who spoke at his funeral described his father saying “My father is a hero. He died for Ethiopia.”

Surprisingly a sizeable crowd attended Tsige funeral as show in the pictures below
