South Africa’s most capped Super Rugby player Tendai ‘Beast’ Mtawarira was appointed Zimbabwe’s tourism ambassador by Minister of Tourism Prisca Mupfumira on 5 June 2019

Although Tendai Mtawari was born in Harare and played for Zimbabwe’s under 19 rugby side he made his debut for South Africa’s Springboks on 14 June 2008 against Wales after being granted permanent residency and eventually citizenship.

Mtawari played his 157th match for the Sharks on Friday, 5 April 2019 moving one ahead of former Springbok captain Adriaan Strauss to become South Africa’s most capped Super rugby player.

“To be an ambassador is going to come easily, I market Zimbabwe daily. I love coming home and spending time in Victoria Falls and Kariba, among my favourite holiday destinations. I never forgot where I come from or my roots,” said Mtawarira.
