Mnangagwa’s son-in-law Gerald Mlotshwa appointed SRC Chairperson

Zimbabwe’s ICT Minister Kazembe Kazembe appointed President Mnangagwa’s son-in-law Gerald Mlotshwa as the new Chairperson of the Sports and Recreation Commission on Friday, 31 May 2019.

Mlotshwa who is a lawyer by profession married Mnangagwa’s daughter Farai in April 2016, he runs Titan Law and has several business interests including a disputed stake in Telecel one of Zimbabwe’s mobile network operators. previously reported that High Court Judge Loice Matanda-Moyo the wife of Zimbabwe’s Foreign Affairs minister Sibusiso Moyo was appointed as the new chairperson of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) on Thursday.

Critics are worried about the conflict of interest arising from the growing number of relatives of Mnangagwa’s administration being appointed to critical government posts.

The previous SRC board was dissolved in September 2018 by the Minister of Sport Kirsty Coventry, who is currently on maternity, Kazembe is the acting minister in her absence.
